Workshop: Clays of Yellowstone National Park
The workshop begins and ends with field excursions to selected thermal sites led by Dave Wenner, University of Georgia, and Ann Rodman, U.S. National Park Service. An intervening series of classroom lectures includes overviews of: 1) Remote spectral imaging of mineral alteration zones in YNP by Eric Livo - U.S. Geological Survey; 2) Biomineralizaton of siliceous sinters by Kurt Konhauser - University of Alberta; 3) Iron and sulfur mineralization by Bill Inskeep - Montana State University and Kirk Nordstrom - U.S. Geological Survey; and 4) Phyllosilicates of YNP by David Mogk - Montana State University. A component for teacher professional development will be aimed at classroom educators and led by Amber Jarrard - University of Georgia.
